When you think of wellness, your mind might immediately turn to luxury spas or yoga retreats. But in Gran Canaria, wellbeing is woven into the island itself, from its volcanic landscapes and year-round sunshine to its coastal scenery, nourishing cuisine and slower pace of life.
To celebrate Global Wellness Day, I was invited to experience the very best of Gran Canaria’s wellness scene alongside an inspiring group of international guests. Joining me were UK wellness and lifestyle content creator Beth Kendra (@Bethanie.kendra), German travel influencer Nadja (@travelprincess.de), Swedish content creator Linda (@wildernessstories), and Martin Bengtsson, founder of Swedish corporate experience company 204 Experience.
For a few nights, we stayed at the beautiful Salobre Hotel Resort & Serenity, a five-star spa hotel tucked away amongst Gran Canaria’s dramatic volcanic landscape. It’s truly stunning! Surrounded by rolling hills and championship golf courses, the resort proved to be the perfect base for our wellness escape, offering relaxing surroundings, award-winning spa facilities, multiple infinity pools and spectacular panoramic views!
Over two carefully curated days, we explored how Gran Canaria is positioning itself as one of Europe’s leading wellness destinations through mindful experiences, luxurious spas, nature and holistic wellbeing.
Day 1
Our wellness journey began at Cordial Mogán Playa, where we were welcomed into one of the island’s most relaxing resorts. Surrounded by beautiful botanical gardens, the hotel offers far more than just luxurious accommodation. Hidden amongst the grounds is a fascinating archaeological site, creating a unique blend of history, nature and relaxation.
After unwinding in the spa and exploring the peaceful botanical gardens, we headed to Perchel Beach Club to spend the afternoon overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. It was the perfect day to enjoy a gorgeous lunch overlooking the sea and getting to know everyone.
Day 2
Our second day began with one of the most memorable experiences of the trip – a guided meditation and mindful walk overlooking the iconic Maspalomas Dunes.
Standing above the vast golden dunes as the sun rose across the landscape was an incredible and refreshing way to begin the day. Led by wellness expert Yaiza Guimare, the session encouraged us to slow our breathing, become present in the moment and reconnect with ourselves.
Following our yoga session, we all enjoyed a relaxing massage at Seaside Palm Beach, where we were treated like royalty from start to finish. Martin was particularly delighted, as he managed to fit in not one, but two treatments.
We then jetted off Gloria Palace San Agustín, home to one of Europe’s leading thalassotherapy centres. Using seawater for therapeutic treatments, the centre showcases the healing benefits of the ocean, helping to improve circulation, ease muscle tension and promote deep relaxation. It was easy to understand why marine wellness has become such an important part of Gran Canaria’s wellbeing offering.
Our final stop brought us to Finca Las Orillas, a grounded sanctuary dedicated to holistic wellbeing, where the pace slowed and the focus turned inward. Surrounded by nature, we took part in a heart opening cacao ceremony followed by guided breathwork, creating space for relaxation, reflection and reconnection. Through gentle breathing exercises and mindful moments of stillness, we were encouraged to let go of everyday pressures, embrace the present, and reconnect with ourselves on a deeper level.
More Than Just a Spa Break
Whether you’re meditating above the Maspalomas Dunes, experiencing the benefits of thalassotherapy, unwinding beside the Atlantic Ocean or simply enjoying the serenity of Salobre Hotel Resort & Serenity, every experience feels thoughtfully connected to nature.
The island’s year-round sunshine, diverse landscapes and growing focus on mindful travel make it an ideal destination for anyone looking to prioritise wellbeing without sacrificing adventure or luxury.
